Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; June 23, l894-May 28, 1972) was King of England & the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from January 20,1936 until his abdication on 11 December the same year. Edward was the eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary. Edward was officially invested as Prince of Wales in a special ceremony on July 13, 1911. Throughout the 1920s, Edward, as Prince of Wales, represented his father, King George V, at home and abroad on many occasions. On one such visits, he arrived in India in December 1921 and returned to the UK in June 1922. During this visit, he travelled far and wide across the Indian subcontinent where he was received by the local rulers, Rajas and Maharajas and a great deal of ceremonial pomp and joy was exhibited through costly gifts and presents by the aristocrats of Indian states and provinces. The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at that time, Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Deen Mahmud Ahmad, may Allah be pleased with him, revived the tradition of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and that of the Promised Messiah, on whom be peace, and welcomed this member of the Royal Family by presenting to him the message of Islam. Huzoor presented the Prince a book with the title A Present to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, that he had specially written for this occasion, with 32,208 members donating 1 ana each to bear the cost of publication. This book was presented to the Prince by a delegation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on February 27, 1922 during his visit to Lahore. Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Deen Mahmud Ahmad, may Allah be pleased with him, expressed his gratitude to the Crown of Britain for the religious tolerance they had exercised in India and their just ways of governance in the highly diverse region of the world. Huzoor then outlined the doctrines of the Promised Messiah, on whom be peace, gave a brief history of the Ahmadiyya Community and concluded by inviting the Prince to the one and only true Faith, Islam. The Prince received the present and sent a message of gratitude through his Chief Secretary. This book was originally sent to the Prince in English language with the Urdu rendering being published later on. This original English version was found in the India Office Records of the British Library by the Ahmadiyya ARC (Archive and Research Centre). Instruction was sought from Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul-Masih V, may Allah be his Helper, who graciously instructed that the second edition be printed so that the message and the rationale behind the writing of this book could be publicised. We thank ARC for obtaining the original book and hope that this serves as an immense source of guidance for all who
